A legend just joined the fight to protect the Yallingup Ridge.
We spent some time out on site today with Bob Brown. He looked at the proposal for the open-cut sand mine, looked out over the canopy, and had some incredibly powerful words for our community and the decision-makers.
He even filmed a dedicated video message on-site to help us rally the final wave of objections before the June 12th deadline.

Atmospheric Physics: the "Ridge Launchpad Effect" will carry toxic, carcinogenic PM_{2.5} Respirable Crystalline Silica dust kilometers across local homes, vineyards, and near by schools.
Traffic Infrastructure Hazards: The physical reality of adding 200 heavy truck movements a day (1 every 3 minutes) onto a narrow tourist and school bus corridor.
Environmental Impact: Unacceptable clearing of native bushland and direct contamination risks to our local water table.
Land-Use Incompatibility: Why heavy industry directly clashes with our regional tourism, sensory wellness retreats, and educational facilities.
Our Mission
Protect Our Pits is dedicated to informing and guiding local residents about the harmful impact of a proposed mine site development in our area.
When a giant of Australian conservation stands up for the Capes, it’s time to listen.
We were incredibly honored to sit down with environmental icon Bob Brown on the Yallingup Ridge. For decades, Bob has been at the forefront of protecting Australia’s most irreplaceable wild places—and now, he’s shining a light directly on our backyard.
As Bob speaks about why the peace, the world-class wineries, the art galleries, and the natural beauty of Yallingup make it a sanctuary, you can hear the real-world ambient hum of Caves Road traffic in the background.
It is a timely, real-time reminder of what is at stake. If regular passing cars can be heard across the ridge, imagine the impact of inserting a heavy industrial open-cut sand mine right here—bringing up to 200 massive, rumbling truck movements every single day, five days a week, for the next five years.
As Bob beautifully sums up, a heavy industrial pit is simply the wrong thing for this iconic part of Western Australia.
Let's stand with Bob and protect the Capes. 🛑
